But this doc is as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking. It’s not easy to be female in Afghanistan. Directed by Carol Dysinger, it won the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject).

Bosnian filmmaker Jasmila Žbanić based her screenplay on true events, focusing on a fictional female protagonist. It is an incredibly executed, superbly acted, impactful movie.

Real Women Have Curves
