Library cards
To acquire a library card, Skokie residents should bring a photo ID with your current Skokie address or a current utility bill that shows your Skokie address to a help desk on the first floor or to the bookmobile. As long as you remain a Skokie resident, your library card will not expire.

Reciprocal Borrowing
If you live in the city of Chicago, or another town that is part of the RAILS public library system, bring your local library card and a photo ID that shows your name and current address in order to register that card with us. Once your home library card is registered with us, it will not expire. However, if you move, make sure you notify us of your new address. You may need to obtain a new library card if you move into a different library service area.
Nonresidents can check out up to 50 items. Reciprocal borrowers may not check out Most Wanted books, Hot Picks DVDs or Blu-rays, STEAM Kits, WiFi hotspots, Chromebooks, or Library of Things items. These items are limited to Skokie cardholders.
For staff at reciprocal libraries
