One of the ways to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day is to honor Dr. King’s life and legacy by completing acts of service to contribute toward making our community better for everyone. Think about a hope or dream you have for your community that will help build a world where all people are treated fairly. Complete this art activity with your family.

Take It, Make It: Pen Pals

There is something satisfying about putting a pen to paper, sending a letter, and having patience to wait for the response. Pick up this month’s Take It, Make It activity kit inside the west entrance of the library, or complete the activity on your own with supplies you have at home.

Family Fun Storytime: Kindness

Ms. Caitlin and Haven celebrate ways to be kind by singing and dancing, then share a story about kindness.

BOOMbox at Home: Making Fun Faces with Food

Different kinds of foods have different kinds of nutrients to help us grow and stay healthy. Make nutritious meals fun by using lots of different kinds of ingredients to make a face on a plate.

Oobleck is a fun and non-toxic alternative to slime. It behaves very strangely, and playing with it will teach you about the science of non-Newtonian fluids. Make your own oobleck and experiment with its properties.

Be the Artist: Silhouettes

A silhouette is an outline of a person or object, either painted with a solid color or made with a piece of paper cut to the shape you want and then placed over a bright solid color. Making silhouettes is a quick and inexpensive way to make a keepsake of a loved one or a fun art piece.

Zentangles are a fun way to explore patterns as well as practice mindfulness. You don’t need a large amount of supplies to do this zentangles art exercise, but you can get as intricate as you want!
