All We Imagine as Light (DVD)
2025Get this itemWinner of the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, written and directed by Payal Kapadia, this is her fiction feature debut. The movie revolves around Prabha and Anu, who are roommates and nurses at a hospital in Mumbai. Prabha is estranged from her husband and wishes for something more. Anu is younger and outgoing, and despite her parents' attempts to arrange a marriage, she is having a secret affair with a young Muslim man. Both women are at turning points in their lives, and Kapadia masterfully captures their hopes for the future, while putting the viewer in the moment. Suggested by Rummanah and Sharon.

Sing Sing
2025Get this itemWe’re more than happy to shine a light on this gem that flew under the radar. It's based on the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts program (RTA) at Sing Sing Correctional Facility and centers on Divine G, incarcerated for a crime he did not commit, who finds a sense of self and purpose via the theater group made up of other incarcerated men. Colman Domingo as Divine G and Clarence Maclin as Divine Eye, a newcomer to the RTA program, turn in emotionally charged performances that you’ll long remember. Suggested by Rummanah and Sharon.
-
Wicked
2025Get this itemWelcome to the wonderful world of Oz. In this first installment of a two-part adaptation of the hit musical play, we meet Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), a young witch shunned because of her green skin, as well as the popular Galinda (Ariana Grande). They are students at Shiz University. There is also Elphaba’s sister Nessarose, a character who uses a wheelchair. Marissa Bode plays Nessarose and is the first actor cast in that role who uses a wheelchair in real life. Suggested by Amber I., Rummanah, and Sharon.
-
Last Breath
2025Get this itemThis is a remake of the 2019 documentary of the same name from filmmaker Alex Parkinson, who recreates the events that happened in 2012 off the coast of Scotland. Three saturation divers were replacing a pipe on an oil rig manifold 300 feet underwater when an accident occurred, leaving one of the divers stranded. While this is a dramatic narrative, a lot of what is shown is fairly accurate, and the tension of the situation jumps off the screen. The ensemble cast includes Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, Finn Cole, and Cliff Curtis, all of whom turn in compelling, realistic performances. Suggested by Rummanah and Sharon.
-
The Count of Monte Cristo
2025Get this itemFrench filmmakers Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière bring an updated Alexandre Dumas’s swashbuckling, revenge saga to life with breath-taking cinematography, an excellent cast, and brilliant editing. This may be my favorite adaptation of this classic story. Suggested by Rummanah.
-
Moana 2
2025Get this itemIn this sequel to the 2016 blockbuster movie, Moana receives a call from the ancestors: to set sail to new skies and reconnect people from across the entire ocean. Courageous and determined, Moana assembles her wayfinding crew, reunites with the demigod Maui, and they embark on a new voyage like no other. Suggested by Sharon.
-
Paddington in Peru
2025Get this itemEverybody’s favorite polite bear is back for a third movie, and it's another charming cinematic event. Paddington and the Brown family fly to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy, only to learn that she’s left the Home for Retired Bears and gone missing in the Amazonian jungle. What could have happened? Paddington and the Browns will not give up on Aunt Lucy, and off they go to have a holiday to remember. Suggested by Sharon.
-
One of Them Days
2025Get this itemKeke Palmer and SZA costar in this raunchy and outrageous buddy comedy about two best friends in LA who encounter a series of misadventures as they race against time to replace their lost rent money before they’re evicted. Palmer and SZA have great onscreen chemistry, and the supporting cast is a hoot. It also touches on some weighty issues like gentrification, predatory businesses, and workplace advancement. Suggested by Sharon.
-
Companion
2025Get this itemA fast-paced, slick, smart thriller-comedy that is best enjoyed not knowing much about this film. With a talented and small cast of characters, this is a satire on desire, codependency, and survival. Suggested by Rummanah.
-
I Saw the TV Glow
2024Get this itemJane Schoenbrun’s horror is more of a slow and inevitable realization than a jump scare. This queer Lynchian allegory is, on its surface, about two teens and their sometimes-covert love for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer pastiche, but this masks a suffocating narrative about refusing to acknowledge what–and who-you are. Suggested by Amy G.
-
Didi
2024Get this itemWritten and directed by Sean Wang, this is his impressive feature film directorial debut. It’s a loosely autobiographical coming-of-age story set in 2008, Fremont, CA. Focusing on 13-year-old Didi in the summer before high school, the movie is tender, honest, funny, about a mother and son, an immigrant story, learning to navigate adolescence, and what things your family can and can’t teach you. Suggested by Sharon.
-
Backspot
2024Get this itemI loved Devery Jacobs (Hulu’s Reservation Dogs) in this not-your-typical cheerleading movie. Full of the real intense energy and joy found in the sport of cheerleading, it’s also a queer coming-of-age drama that moves conversations forward in the way it explores such themes as mental health, body image, relationships, stress, anxiety, ambition, athleticism, identity, and self-perception. Jacobs, who was a competitive gymnast before becoming an actor and does her own stunts, is one of the film's producers along with the director D. W. Waterson. Their movie is a welcome addition to the cheerleading movie canon. Suggested by Sharon.
-
Thelma
2024Get this itemWhen 93-year-old Thema (the amazing June Squibb) is scammed out of $10,000, she channels her inner action hero and embarks on a “mission impossible” to get it back. Thelma recruits her friend Ben (Richard Roundtree, remember him as Shaft?) to help, mostly because he has a new two-person scooter, but they end up making a terrific team. This movie is full of heart while also addressing issues of family dynamics, senior autonomy, aging, and ageism. Suggested by Brenna, Kieran, Rummanah, and Sharon.
-
Challengers
2024Get this itemTennis and a love triangle--this dynamic film turns all of the tropes of a sports movie upside down. Mike Faist, Zendaya, and Josh O'Connor all play fantastically complex characters who are unapologetic about their ambitions. Plus, listen to the amazing, intense score composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross that becomes part of the storytelling process. This movie delivers on multiple levels. Suggested by Amber I., Amy G., Rummanah, and Sharon.
-
Perfect Days
2024Get this itemFrom filmmaker Wim Wenders, we get this quiet and reflective film about a man who cleans toilets in Tokyo. It is a beautiful meditation on life, a reminder to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us. Suggested by Annabelle, Brenna, Paul, and Sharon.
-
Godzilla Minus One
2024Get this itemAre you a Kaiju fan? This movie won the 2024 Oscar for Best Achievement in Visual Effects, and I couldn’t be more pleased for the team behind this movie. They delivered in a big way--the well-written script, the believable characters, the amazing monster itself--awesome work! Suggested by Sharon.
-
The Wild Robot
2024Get this itemOne can’t say enough positive things about this heartwarming animated movie based on the popular kids’ book of the same name. The story follows a service robot who is lost in a typhoon and lands on an uninhabited island where she learns to become more than she was programmed to be--finding purpose and joy through motherhood, family, and friends. The animation is phenomenal, the voice cast is superb, and the screenplay is beautifully written. Suggested by Rummanah and Sharon.
-
The Long Game
2024Get this itemDon’t overlook this inspirational movie set in the 1950s, based on a true story about Mexican American high school students who have a passion for golf but are not allowed to play at the local all-white country club where they work as caddies. The boys find a kindred spirit in the new school superintendent, JB Peña, and they become the first members of the San Felipe High School golf team. Despite barriers and prejudice, they become state champions. Suggested by Sharon.
-
Twisters
2024Get this itemThis isn’t just a movie, it’s an experience. Thrilling action, riveting storm-chasing scenes, and a bit of romantic tension make for a heart-pounding adventure. Fans of the original “Twister” will also find plenty of callbacks to the original film! Suggested by Brenna and Sharon.

Wicked Little Letters
2024Get this itemStranger than fiction, we couldn’t stop chuckling at this British black comedy based on an actual scandal from the 1920s. Edith and other residents of Littlehampton have been receiving anonymous letters full of foul language, and the prime suspect is Edith's free-spirited next-door neighbor, an Irish immigrant named Rose. However, a few of the local women think the police are on the wrong track, and they launch their own covert investigation. Suggested by Sharon and Susanne.
-
The Fall Guy
2024Get this itemHere is a love letter to stunt action and a highly entertaining pick for your movie night. The entire cast delights and has perfect chemistry as they trade barbs and bounce off one another. Suggested by Rummanah and Sharon.
-
Slash/Back
2022Get this itemWatching this horror/science fiction alien invasion movie is so much fun. It’s filmmaker Nyla Innuksuk’s feature debut, and she draws a lot of inspiration from her love of the horror genre. The story is set in Pangnirtung, a very remote community in the Canadian territory of Nunavut, on the longest day of the year. While the adults are enjoying a social dance and are unreachable, it falls to a group of teenage girls to stop otherworldly invaders from taking what is theirs. Slash/Back = Land/Back. Suggested by Sharon.
-
20,000 Species of Bees
Get this itemFor her feature film debut, filmed in the beautiful Basque Country, Spanish writer and director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren created a sensitive story that follows an eight-year-old’s journey of self-discovery and exploration of gender identity and femininity. Sofía Otero won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, making her the youngest actor to win the award. Suggested by Sharon.
