All Creatures Great & Small: Season 4
2024Get this itemBased on the books by James Herriot, ever since this reboot series hit the small screen in 2020, it’s been on my favorite picks list. Centering on a veterinary practice in Yorkshire, Dales, season 4, now firmly in the WWII years, once again brings top-notch writing, likable characters, breathtaking locations, and relatable themes. Whether it be with humor or pathos or somewhere in between, I’m there for all of it. Suggested by Sharon.

Mr. Bates Vs the Post Office
2024Get this itemYou would think by the title that this is not a very compelling premise; however, it’s based on an incredible true story and a terrific binge watch. The four part British miniseries recounts a huge miscarriage of justice, in which hundreds of subpostmasters were prosecuted for theft, fraud, or false accounting due to apparent cash deficits that were actually caused by a faulty computer system the government was using. Several of the real people involved appear at the end to bring everything full circle. Suggested by Sharon.

Nolly
2024Get this itemStep into 1970’s and 1980’s nostalgia with this miniseries about British actress Noele Gordon. It is a highly entertaining dramedy that has the right splash of warmth, and Helen Bonham Carter delivers a fantastic performance. Suggested by Paul.
-
Wednesday: Season 1
2024Get this itemThere’s certainly a lot to like about this darkly comedic Netflix show starring Jenna Ortega (“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”) as Wednesday Addams. Based on the iconic characters created by Charles Addams, in this new version the representation of Latine identity via Wednesday and her family is refreshing. From the scene-stealing disembodied Thing to Wednesday’s viral epic dance at a school party, it does not disappoint. Suggested by Brenna and Sharon.
-

But when her neighbor meets an untimely end, Judith is determined to find whodunit and becomes part of the investigation along with Suzie, a dog walker, Becks, the vicar’s wife, and then there’s DS Tanika--whose real job is to solve crimes. Little Bird
2023Get this itemOne of the best Canadian television dramas in recent years, the series focuses on a First Nations woman who was adopted at age five by a white, Jewish couple. Now about to get married, Esther realizes that she can’t take a step further until she finds her birth family and learns the true circumstances surrounding her adoption. This fictionalized account is based on actual events and remembrances of those who were victims of the Sixties Scoop, and you’ll definitely feel all the feelings for Bezhig Little Bird/Esther Rosenblum. Suggested by Sharon.
-
