Invasive Species Forensics

Monday, March 26, 2018
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Radmacher Meeting Room

People have transported plants and animals to new areas for centuries. When species become invasive, they cause great economic and environmental harm.

Learn how scientists try to detect new invaders using environmental DNA in the water. In the Great Lakes, invasive species cost hundreds of millions of dollars every year. The zebra mussel from the Ukraine is one example. Biologist Erin Grey-Avis will discuss her research on this phenomenon and provide updates on how further damage to the ecosystem can be prevented.
