Implicit Bias Training

Sunday, June 30, 2024
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Radmacher Room

We often think prejudice and bias are obvious, but they're not always apparent. Learn about unconscious bias, also called implicit bias, and tips to help you notice and address it in your life.

Most of us are familiar with explicit bias--we are conscious of our positive or negative preferences. But what about implicit bias --an unconscious negative attitude about a specific social group? Participants will gain a better understanding of the concept of bias in general, as well as insight into how biases can and do affect our decisions about the world every single day.

This presentation will include a combination of interactive activities, practical examples, and dynamic discussion. Participants will be able to better analyze their unconscious (hidden) biases. Led by Ryan Wynett from the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

This event is part of “Love beyond Freedom,” a series of events about freedom and justice that builds on the history and spirit of Juneteenth. It is a collaboration of Crossing Borders Music, Chicago History Museum, The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and Skokie Public Library.
