Navigating Aging Services and Social Isolation

Wednesday, March 27, 2024
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Business and Community Center

Are you a caregiver trying to help a loved one? Maybe you’re an older adult looking to know your options but are having difficulty navigating those options.

Chicago Methodist Senior Services (CMSS) wants to help you be a wise consumer, to better understand your options, and to better understand the terminology that surrounds aging services. Tricia Mullin, gerontologist and social worker, and Katie Fasullo from CMSS’s Senior Connections Program and SASI home services lead the presentation. They want families, older adults, and decision makers to be armed with knowledge for when care is needed. They will also discuss the prevalence of social isolation and loneliness in our society, how it affects older people, and ways to combat it.

The presentation will include:

  • The differences between assisted and supportive living and where memory care fits in, especially when funds are being depleted
  • The differences between home health and home care and how to access them
  • Information about maintenance therapy
  • Options for inside the home
  • An overview of social isolation and loneliness
  • Ways to decrease social isolation and loneliness in the community
