Event
Art Sparks Writing with Ivy Sundell : Creative Workshop and Open Mic
Thursday, December 8, 2022
6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Radmacher Room
When you look carefully at a work of art, what do you see? What stories and questions does it spark for you? Could it be a seed for an entirely new creation?
A painting, a song, or a poem might be interpreted in a number of ways not similar to the artist's own motivation.
Editor Ivy Sundell has published two short story anthologies illustrating this idea. Both contain short stories inspired by the work of Chicago area fine artists. In each book, readers can see the paintings and prose side-by-side--how they sometimes feel separate, other times in conversation with each other.
Ivy has assembled an exhibit of paintings by several of these artists. Some of these artworks are featured in the books, and some are not. Each can serve as the kernel for a story, a poem, a song, or other creative work.
Hear a short background of the project, then roam the Radmacher Gallery to spend time with some of the paintings on display. See what they evoke to you and capture that in a poem, prose, or even a song. At the end of this session, we'll host an open mic opportunity for those who wish to share.
Writing paper and pencils will be provided, as well as time for reflection. Bring along your curiosity, your ability to observe, and your imagination.
This workshop is open to both adults and teens.
Online registration is closed.
