Zoom into the Movies--Two Short Films: Online Event

Chris, Sharon, and Mimosa discuss two short films that explore friendship, women's empowerment, and grace under pressure.

First is Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl). Available to stream on Hoopla, this is an award-winning short documentary that follows a group of girls over the course of a year in Kabul, Afghanistan, as they go to school and the skate park, despite the instability that threatens both institutions.

Next, we'll talk about The Phone Call, which is available to stream on Kanopy. This short film features Heather (Sally Hawkins), who must make difficult decisions while taking a call on a crisis hotline. Watch these films on your own using the library's free streaming services, and then join our discussion, bringing your questions and comments.
