Words and Music: A History of Protest Music in America

Sunday, November 10, 2019
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Petty Auditorium

Enjoy a tour of the American protest tradition through song, making stops with Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Ruthie Foster, and Alice Wine.

Singer/songwriter Kev Wright and author and professor David Masciotra team up in a unique presentation. You'll learn about the rich history of protest music in the United States, better understand the connection of that history with our politics, and hear powerful renditions of many of the songs crucial to that history.

David Masciotra has written for the Atlantic, Los Angeles Review of Books, and Salon. He teaches writing and literature at Indiana University Northwest and has written four books related to today's performance.
