BOOMbox Earth

Through April 17, we’re exploring Earth: its makeup, weather, processes, ecosystems, and changes. We’re using some of the tools from previous programs in the BOOMbox like our digital microscope, magnifying glasses, and even the WatercolorBot in addition to our newest resource, zSpace, a 3D virtual reality computer, to combine scientific discovery with making.

Mentors are featuring different activities every few weeks including making fossil molds, growing crystals, and demonstrating environmental erosion.

Weekly micro workshops for kids and adults are back. Visitduring drop-in time on Mondays to erupt our in-house volcano:

We are featuring rock tumbling on Tuesdays in March.

Wednesdays, uncover other mysteries of the Earth with hands-on experiments.

You'll find the full drop-in schedule here: https://skokielibrary.info/services/boombox/

We’ve also partnered with the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art to provide access to traveling exhibit boxes that include specimens and related activities. Last month we examined fossils through geologic time and coming up, we’ll learn about the rocks, minerals, and fossils found in Illinois. The Lizzadro Museum is also presenting a youth program at the end of February and an adult program in April. Rock on!
