West Lobby Renovations

I’m Richard Kong, the deputy director here at the library, and I’d love to share some details about an upcoming project. Did you know that over 2,000 people, on average, visit the library each day? The majority of library visitors enter the building from the west parking lot, so we’re making some exciting changes to the West Lobby to make it more welcoming and convenient.

You may have noticed that we already consolidated the items on reserve to make it simpler to pick up your holds in one area. In mid-October, additional work will begin to give the West Lobby a face lift, including:

  • Centrally located self-checkout kiosks that will offer more convenience for patrons (don’t worry, our friendly staff will still be available to greet and assist you!);
  • Streamlined service desks that will take up less space, resulting in a much more open and comfortable space for everyone;
  • Additional displays that will showcase more popular books, movies, and other items, all conveniently located near the entrance of the library; and
  • Better lighting to give the entire West Lobby a brighter, more welcoming feel.

During the renovation, which is expected to wrap up in early November, you will still be able to check out items, pick up holds, and receive account help from staff by the East Checkout Desk. Additional self-checkout stations will be set up in the Youth Services area and on the second floor. Returns will be accepted near the west side, east side, and in the drive-up return bins in the south driveway. The library will be open regular hours throughout the process, and both the west parking lot and the west entrance will be open. And, of course, staff will be on hand to guide you and answer your questions.
