Civic Piano Quintet: Finding Her Voice

Saturday, April 7, 2018
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Petty Auditorium

The Civic Piano Quintet features players from the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, coached by members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Third Coast Percussion.

This concert includes music written by women from the 12th century to the present. The rhythmic chants of German medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen complement the playful madrigals of Italian Baroque singer and composer Barbara Strozzi. The piano quintet of 19th-century French composer and pianist Louise Farrenc shows off her energetic Romantic style. Rounding out the program are works written in the last 25 years by American Pulitzer prizewinner Ellen Taafe Zwilich and British composer and Master of the Queen's Music Judith Weir.

Members of the Civic Piano Quintet are Natalie Lee, violin; Rebecca Boelzner, viola; Nicky Swett, cello; Joe Bauer, double bass; and Pei-Yeh Tsai, piano.
