Reading for Curiosity: El Deafo

Tuesday, May 2, 2023
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Radmacher Room

This community discussion of El Deafo by Cece Bell is designed for families with children in grades 4-6 who attend Skokie schools.

Dinner will be provided. Registration is required, and this event is limited to 15 family groups with a maximum of 3 people in each family group. Registered family groups can pick up a copy of El Deafo from the Kids Room desk starting April 1.

El Deafo is the autobiographically inspired graphic novel featuring Cece, who discovers that her hearing aid allows her to not only hear her teacher in the classroom but anywhere in her school including in the hallway, in the teacher's lounge, and in the bathroom. This is power, maybe even superpower. Cece is on her way to becoming El Deafo, listener for all. But the funny thing about being a superhero is that it's just another way of feeling different...and lonely. Can Cece channel her powers into finding the thing she wants most, a true friend?

Find El Deafo and other works by Bell in the library catalog.

Online registration is closed.
