'Eyes on the Prize' Talking Circle: Fighting Back (1957-62)

Sunday, June 19, 2022
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
South Courtyard

Discuss the themes and stories, and reflect upon "Fighting Back," the second episode of this award-winning documentary series, in a professionally facilitated, courtyard setting.

Available to watch on Kanopy, The "Fighting Back" episode covers the collision of states' rights loyalists and federal authorities from 1957 through 1962.

In the battle to integrate Little Rock's Central High School, and again in James Meredith's challenge to segregation at the University of Mississippi, a Southern governor squares off with a U.S. president, violence erupts, and integration is carried out.

We're using a "talking circle" format to provide a safe, nonjudgmental place in which each participant has the opportunity to contribute as well as reflect and learn.

Although Eyes on the Prize is important for viewers of all ages, this discussion is intended for adults.
