Skokie’s community Juneteenth celebration begins with an opening ceremony on the Village Green.

Following a flag-raising in front of Village Hall at 5:45 pm, the opening ceremony will feature Mayor George Van Dusen reading the Juneteenth Proclamation; speakers, including Sherialyn Byrdsong and Rev. Dr. Michael Nabors, President of the Evanston/North Shore NAACP; and performances by local teens. The event will be streamed live on the Skokie United website.

If the weather is bad, the event will move to the library's Petty Auditorium, with a maximum capacity of 50.

The 2021 Skokie Juneteenth community celebration is a collaboration of Skokie United, Skokie Park District, the Village of Skokie, Oakton Community College, Skokie Public Library, Sketchbook Brewing Company, and Niles Township Food Pantry Foundation.
