Family Book Club: The Undefeated

Thursday, February 13, 2020
6:30 pm - 7:15 pm
Youth Program Room

In this book discussion for second and third graders and an accompanying grown-up, we'll discuss a story of triumph from author Kwame Alexander and play a book-related game or create a craft together.

The Undefeated, written as a poem, is a love letter to black life in the United States. It highlights the unspeakable trauma of slavery, the faith and fire of the civil rights movement, and the grit, passion, and perseverance of some of the world's greatest heroes. The text is also peppered with references to the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., Langston Hughes, Gwendolyn Brooks, and others, offering deeper insights into the accomplishments of the past, while bringing stark attention to the endurance and spirit of those surviving and thriving in the present.

Sign up for the discussion, then pick up a copy of the book at the Youth Services Desk. Please register only the child attending, although an adult must attend as well.

Online registration is closed.
