Cambodian Music of Life and Healing: Crossing Borders Music

Sunday, October 27, 2019
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Petty Auditorium

Under the Khmer Rouge, most Cambodian artists were killed. Heroic efforts were required to find living artists to pass along the traditional art forms, and this performance celebrates them.

This life-affirming performance showcases National Cambodian Heritage Museum resident artist Punisa Pov, who was taught by genocide survivors. String quartet music by Cambodian-American composer Chinary Ung is inspired by the traditional art forms and honors the genocide victims. The concert will conclude with an uplifting musical collaboration between Pov and the Crossing Borders Music string quartet. Cosponsored by the National Cambodian Heritage Museum and Killing Fields Memorial.
