Staff Profile: Taylor Ervin, Production Specialist

Tall, gangly, dressed in black, tripod in hand; maybe you've seen me in the Digital Media Lab or accidentally interrupting your quiet study time on the second floor (sorry!). My name is Taylor, and I work as a Production Specialist here at the library, which means I produce all of the library's videos.

The best part of my job is that I'm not confined to the library. I get to explore Skokie and its surrounding communities and to document the things I find. I stuff my backpack full of camera equipment and lug it around to meet amazing local artists like Matthew Schaefer and Ethan Hoppe and to learn about cool stuff happening in our community, like the Talking Farm and the Chicago School of Violin Making. You can see my work on our YouTube channel.

From August 10-October 10, you can also see my video interview with Dale Wickum on display alongside Dale's photographs in the library's main exhibition space.

If you want to learn how to do what I do, I'll be teaching some basic video techniques as part of the class Fade to Black: How to Make Great Videos on August 17. Make sure to sign up so you can hone your skills in time to submit your finished movies to Skokie in Motion, our annual film festival, which takes place on August 29. I may even be submitting something of my own!
