It's Time to Read to the Rhythm This Summer

It’s my favorite time of the year—Summer Reading! We’ll “Read to the Rhythm,” from June 1 to July 31.

Visit the Youth Services Department, where pint-sized stars can act out their rock and roll dreams on our stage. In the East Lobby, put on the headphones and sample different kinds rhythms (we don’t mind if you dance in place!). Or watch as the exhibit screen moves with rhythm of the music playing overhead.

Of course, we will be reading as well! Sign up in the library or on the Bookmobile to receive your log. Or sign up online and track your progress from anywhere. Fill up your rhythm bars (either online or in paper) by reading 20 minutes a day. You can challenge yourself and set your own goal if 20 minutes isn't enough.

Share with us all those great books by writing a review online. Once you’ve completed your log and visits to the library or the Bookmobile, you will earn your summer reading t-shirt (Skokie residents only while supplies last). All those who complete the program will be entered into grand prize drawings for fabulous prizes.

Put on your dancing shoes and exercise for 10 minutes a day for the duration of summer reading. If you fill up your activity bars, you will be entered into a raffle for a new pair of tennis shoes.

For a chance for even more prizes, be a super user and do our Smooth Syncopator challenges. Complete 3 of 9 library related activities (like checking out a CD or a movie, tweeting about Summer Reading, or writing a book review) to get an extra grand prize chance. If you complete all 9, you get one additional chance in the grand prize drawing.

It’s sure to be a fun (and loud) summer!
