Exploring Your Roots: Getting Help with Genealogical Research

From events featuring genealogy experts to useful online resources, Skokie Public Library can help you explore your family's history.

Local author Steve Szabados, who has written several books on genealogy, will be at here on Monday evening, May 11, 2015 to give a presentation entitled Jump-Start Your Genealogy Research (register now). You'll leave with a solid strategy for approaching genealogy research.

When you're here in the library, you can use our subscription to You'll be able to search millions of historical documents like historical census reports, military records, immigration records and more.

Your research doesn't have to stop in the library, though. From home, you can use the Chicago Tribune Historical Archives. These online archives go back to 1849 so you can search for articles, notices or ads with your family name in them. All you need is your library card to get started.

If you need personal assistance, we can connect you with a volunteer well versed in doing genealogical research. Call Bruce Brigell at 847-324-3142 to arrange an appointment with the volunteer.
