Wi-Fi Hotspots are Available for Checkout
July 5, 2017
We are now circulating Wi-Fi hotspots which you can check out from the Information Desk located on the second floor of the library. These wireless Sprint R850 Mobile Hotspots allow you to access the internet from any Wi-Fi-capable device—smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Adult or high schooler Skokie Public Library card holders may check one out for a period of three weeks. They can be renewed if there are no reserves placed on them. There is no fee to check out and use them, but a $1.00 per day fee will be applied for overdue hotspots.
Using the Wi-Fi hotspot is easy. To turn it on, press and hold the power button for at least two seconds. Press the power button again to cycle through the menu and find the Wi-Fi network name and password on the screen. Using this information, connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot with your device. While they cannot be used internationally, Wi-Fi hotspots cover many areas in the U.S., including the entire Chicagoland area.
For more information about coverage and locations, visit the Mobile Beacon website. For additional help, you can look at the instructional booklet included with the Wi-Fi hotspot or visit Sprint's support page. You can also stop by the Information Desk for assistance.
