Your library card connects you to a world of resources and learning. Register for a card at our west Checkout Desk on the first floor or start the process online.
Bring a photo I.D. with your name and current Skokie address to the west Checkout Desk to apply. Residents under the age of 16 need a parent’s signature; young children need to be able to print their first and last name to get their own card.
You also can start the process online and pick up your card in person later (don’t forget to bring along I.D.).
Companies based in Skokie or members of the Skokie Chamber of Commerce are eligible for a business library card. Complete the business library card application and return it to us with the required documentation. We’ll mail the card to the business address you provide.
If you don't live in Skokie but reside in another town that is part of the RAILS public library system, bring your local library card and a photo I.D. that shows your name and current address in order to register that card with us. Nonresidents can check out up to ten items. Most of our items can be checked out, but some borrowing limits do apply.
If you live in Chicago or elsewhere outside the RAILS system, you can buy a Skokie Public Library card for $350 for 12 months or $175 for 6 months.

Renewing your card
Library cards are valid for 3 years. To renew your library card bring in a photo ID showing your name and current Skokie address. Parents will supply their own ID for children under the age of 16. All accrued fees must be paid before the card can be renewed. Your card will be renewed for 3 years.
Library cards are valid for 1 year. Chamber members’ cards are valid as long as they have a current membership. Businesses will receive a reminder letter to renew their card(s). Complete the business library card application and return it with the required documentation. All accrued fees must be paid before the card can be renewed. Card(s) will be renewed for one year.
Reciprocal card registrations are valid for 1 year or when the card expires at the home library, whichever is earlier. Stay on top of your library account with email notifications. We’ll email due date, overdue, and reserve notifications. Give us your email address when you get your library card or add an email to your account (log in and select “Edit account”).
