Your library card connects you to a world of resources and learning. Register for a card at our west Checkout Desk on the first floor or start the process online.
During our temporary closure due to COVID-19, we can email you a library card number so that you can use all of our online resources. No need to come in! Just fill out the online application and we'll be in touch.
Companies based in Skokie and members of the Skokie Chamber of Commerce are eligible for a business library card. Complete the business library card application and return it to us with the required documentation. We’ll mail the card to the business address you provide.
If you live in another town that is part of the RAILS public library system, bring your local library card and a photo ID that shows your name and current address in order to register that card with us. Nonresidents can check out up to 30 items. Borrowing limits do apply.
If you live in Chicago you can buy a Skokie Public Library card for $350 for 12 months or $175 for 6 months.

Lost your card?
Call immediately to report a lost or stolen card. You are responsible for any items checked out with the card until we are notified.
Change of address
If you move, update your address and phone number at the west Checkout Desk.
Renewing your card
As long as you remain a Skokie resident, your library card will not expire.
Library cards are valid for 1 year. Chamber members’ cards are valid as long as they have a current membership. Businesses will receive a reminder letter to renew their card(s). Complete the business library card application and return it with the required documentation. All accrued fees must be paid before the card can be renewed. Card(s) will be renewed for one year.
Once your home library card is registered with us, it will not expire. However, if you move, make sure you notify us of your new address. You may need to obtain a new library card if you move into a different library service area.
Stay on top of your library account with email notifications. We’ll email due date, overdue, and holds notifications. Give us your email address when you get your library card or add an email to your account.
