Our second-floor Computer Commons and adjacent Computer Classroom offer Internet access, Microsoft Office, scanning stations, and printers. All you need is a Skokie Public Library card or registered suburban card. Chicago residents may apply for a Computer Use card. These computers are open to anyone in high school or older. You even can make a reservation online!

We also have several computers specifically configured for kids in our Youth Computer Lab and Youth Services department.

Adult Digital Media Lab

Lab requirements and procedures updated October 1, 2018.

Use our Digital Media Lab (DML) to create music, produce movies, edit photos, digitize tapes, and design websites. The adult DML is available to Skokie Public Library cardholders high school age and above.

The adult DML can be reserved by one patron or group of up to six people. Reserve the adult DML at any service desk or by calling the library at 847-673-7774. To use the adult DML, you’ll need a Skokie Library card. One 2-hour reservation is allowed per day. If there are no other reservations after you, your time may be extended in 1-hour increments at the East Checkout Desk where you will also check out and return the DML key.

Patrons who check out the DML are responsible for any damage to equipment. Use the phone in the DML to call the Information Desk for assistance. We also provide online resources which are accessible from DML workstations. If you need in depth assistance, please schedule a 1-on-1 appointment at the Information Desk.

The Lab

The Lab's computers feature hardware and software selected with kids in mind. Windows computers are available for everyday gaming and homework. The Lab has its own DML featuring iMacs with Photoshop Elements, iLife, and other maker software. We also have microphones, an electric guitar, and a USB mini MIDI keyboard to use in our sound booth. More tech equipment like VR headsets, Ozobots, and a vinyl cutter are available for use in the Lab.

Laptops, devices and gadgets

Skokie Public Library cardholders can borrow laptops to use inside the library. Stop by the Information Desk on the second floor to check one out.

Free WiFi is available througout the library. Simply log on select “Skokie Library” as your wireless connection; no password required!

3D printing

Send us your 3D printing files and we will print them for you on our 3D printer. Use our online form to make your request. Requests may take up to two weeks.

Wireless Printing

Visit Skokie Public Library’s PrintSpot to send print jobs from your laptop or from computers outside the building.

  • Black and white printing costs 10¢ per page.
  • Color printing costs 25¢ per page
  • Retrieve print jobs at the Print Release Station in the second-floor Computer Commons.
  • Unclaimed print jobs will be deleted 4 hours after they’re sent.
  • If you plan to use wireless printing regularly, we recommend you download and install the PrintWhere driver.
  • To print an email message or attachment from a mobile device, forward your email to for black and white and for color. You’ll enter your email user name to retrieve your print job.

Copy and Fax Machines

Copy and fax machines are available in the Copy Center on the second floor. An additional copy machine is located on the first floor by the west Checkout Desk. Payment can be made in cash or by credit card.

  • Black and white printing costs 10¢ per page.
  • Color printing costs 25¢ per page
  • Faxes cost 50¢ per page to send within the United States and $1 per page outside of the U.S. We do not accept receipt of faxes.
