  • Last Night at the Telegraph Club

A gripping tale of two young women falling in love in 1950's San Francisco, this queer femme historical is deeply researched. O Magazine calls it "proof of Lo's skill at creating darkly romantic tales of love in the face of danger." Recommended by Allyson.

  • Every Heart a Doorway

    2016 by McGuire, Seanan

Probably the most "mainstream" and widely known asexual representation in fiction, Every Heart a Doorway won the Hugo Award for Best Novella in 2017. There’s a little bit of conflation of asexuality and lack of desire to date, but otherwise, it’s a book with great characterization and worldbuilding. If you're looking to read ace fiction, it is a great place to start. Recommended by Becca.

  • Xeni: A Marriage of Inconvenience: Loose Ends, #2

    2019 by Weatherspoon, Rebekah

When Sable Everly passes away, she leaves her estate to her niece, Xeni Everly-Wilkins, with one condition: Xeni must marry before she can inherit. And Sable had just the groom in mind: her friend, the ruggedly handsome Scotsman Mason McInroy. Neither imagined that Sable would use her dying breaths to play matchmaker, trapping them in a marriage scheme that comes with many complications. Buzzfeed says, "They're both in need of a partner, they're both bi, and they're both hot, so what could possibly go wrong? (Lots of things, it turns out, but that doesn't mean they're not meant to be!)" It's technically the second book in the series, but you don't have to read the first book. Recommended by Becca.

  • Modern English

    2021 by Spangler, Rachel

This one sounds like a lovely vacation read. Don't be fooled by the cover-- this takes place in present day. Lady Victoria returns to her family's castle for the summer only to find a Hollywood film crew using her home as their set for a film starring rising starlet Sophia LeBlanc. As the summer heats up, Vic and Sophia learn they have far more in common than their intense sexual attraction, but will that be enough to overcome the pressures of proud histories and find their way toward a new vision of forever? Recommended by Allyson.

  • The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps

    2015 by Wilson, Kai Ashante

Geek Syndicate says, “At its heart, Sorcerer of the Wildeeps is a beautiful yet brutal fairy tale about gods and monsters, loneliness and love. At 208 pages, the journey may not seem far but it will stay with you for a long time afterwards.” Bonus: it "makes no apologies whatsoever for Black, queer, male sexuality" (Barnes & Noble). Recommended by Allyson.
